Promote Your Business With Podcasting
People are generally lazy. This isn’t meant
to insult anyone, of course. It’s just a plain fact that
if there’s an easier way to do things, we’d take that option
instantaneously. If we have the money to spare and if we
could afford a service for hire that would do the dirty work
for us, we’d have little hesitation on availing on such a
service.
This rather universal “laziness” can work either way for
an online businessman. On one hand, the laziness of people
would bring about the emergence of so many needs that would
provide some profit opportunities for enterprising folks.
On the other hand, a businessman also needs to spread his
business message, and on the Internet, the most popular manner
of distribution is through the use of words. But what if
the intended reader is too lazy to read the message that
the businessman has prepared?
Enticing potential customers to read the businessman’s correspondence
and eventually absorb the business message is a legitimate
concern for all online enterprises.
Achieving this goal is made easier by a new technology called
podcasting.
What Is Podcasting?
If podcasting sounds very similar to broadcasting, it’s
because the former is a word inspired by the latter. Podcasting
involves the broadcast of audio feeds through Real Simple
Syndication (RSS). By being able to convey the business message
in an auditory manner, you’d be able to reach those people
who are too lazy to read conventional correspondence in written
form.
RSS is slowly becoming the universal standard for digital
message transmittal. A Forrester Research reveals that by
the year 2010, there would be around 20 million people who
would rely on RSS for functions that are currently being
catered to by emails, chat systems and instant messaging
programs.
The very same Forrester Research also reveals that come
the said year, 13 million people would be listening to podcasts
for a variety of reasons. Podcasts can be heard through a
PC terminal or through a portable digital device like an
iPod.
Investing On Podcasting
Podcasts can be played in any device that could read music
files. Its unique selling point? Podcasts can be transmitted
through RSS, and this would allow a real time delivery of
the message in the audio feed. You could talk to your listeners
much like how a radio announcer could reach millions of people
through his radio program.
Delivering the business message isn’t the only goal that
can be served by podcasting. You could also conduct an electronic
course, with the lessons fed to the students via something
that they could actually hear. Audible formats are better
absorbed than visual symbols on most occasions, but this
shouldn’t preclude the option of using both to complement
each other.
You could also conduct an interview with a particular expert
in an industry relevant to your business and create an audio
file from such, and you could podcast this interview as it
is!
There are a lot of other uses for podcasting that have yet
to be explored. Much like any cutting edge technology, being
at the forefront would ensure that you get first crack at
lucrative opportunities that podcasting may give birth to.
How To Start With Podcasting?
Promoting your business through podcasting is not as difficult
as it seems. In just a few steps, you’d be able to deliver
your business message through auditory channels.
1. Get a programs that would allow you to record and create
your own audio file. There are programs of this nature that
can freely be downloaded from the Internet.
2. Create an RSS feed. You could do this manually by changing
the extension of any text file into .rss and adding special
tag enclosures, or you could avail of RSS feed generators
which can also be downloaded from the Internet for free.
3. You have to upload your audio file and your RSS feeds
on a server.
4. You would have to gather subscribers for your RSS feeds.
This can be accomplished through the same strategies used
in boosting your mailing list.
5. You’re ready for podcast! Your RSS feeds and audio files
will be delivered directly to the desktop of your subscribers,
and they would be able to read and hear your messages as
soon as they are transmitted. There is no danger of being
filtered as spam. There is no peril of being neglected by
the recipient. You message is guaranteed to be received and
absorbed!
